ADE were appointed by a leading global supplier of power generation systems to design and manufacture bespoke acoustic enclosures for a hyperscale data centre in the Netherlands, forming the first of a multi-phase emergency standby power project for the facility.

This initial phase consisted of 14 bespoke designed and manufactured acoustic enclosures, each engineered to achieve a noise level of 85 dB(A) at 1 metre, to house 3500 kVA CAT 3616E diesel generator sets. Drawing on our extensive experience delivering generator packages for hyperscale data centres, ADE provided a fully integrated enclosure and packaging solution.

Each enclosure was designed, manufactured and painted at ADE’s UK facility before being fully fitted out in-house. ADE engineers installed the generator sets and completed the mechanical and electrical integration, including motorised dampers, bird mesh, and water mist eliminators for the air inlets, along with internal lighting and small power systems. Bespoke bolt-on cabinets were also manufactured to accommodate fire suppression equipment, which was installed at ADE by our client’s specialist contractors.

To support efficient heat rejection, ADE also designed and manufactured a bespoke 3 metre tall air outlet stack for each enclosure, engineered to interface seamlessly with the overall ventilation and exhaust arrangement.

Following completion of the extensive fit-out, each packaged generator system underwent client-specific testing, carried out by ADE engineers to verify build quality, integration and readiness for site installation prior to dispatch.

The completed generator packages were then delivered to our client’s storage to await delivery to the hyperscale data centre, where our client’s installation teams positioned the units and completed final assembly. This included fitting the air outlet stacks as well as SCR systems to ensure compliance with applicable emissions requirements.

This project represents just phase 1 of the wider programme, and at the time of publishing, ADE has a further 101 acoustic enclosures in production for three additional phases, reinforcing ADE’s proven capability to deliver high-volume, technically complex generator enclosure packages for mission-critical hyperscale data centre applications.
